What is infrared sauna therapy and how is it different to traditional saunas?

An infrared sauna uses light to create heat. Sometimes it’s called a far-infrared sauna, whereby ‘far’ describes where the waves fall on the infrared spectrum.

Whereas a traditional sauna uses heat to warm the air and body, infrared saunas directly heat your body without warming the air around you. Instead, UV-filtered light rays seep through your skin to internally generate heat and help you radiate from within.

Because of this, it’s more comfortable than a heat-warmed sauna. You’ll still sweat, release toxins and stimulate the respiratory system, just without the stuffy tightness felt from too much heat in the air.

The result is a pleasurable, relaxing experience, which is completely safe and restorative. This is how it falls under the therapy bracket too.

INFRARED SAUNA THERAPY BENEFITS

Infrared saunas have so many benefits for your health and wellbeing.

For a start, it calms the nervous system and helps to destress. Then there’s the physical transformation of your cells, circulation and respiratory functioning. And did we mention weight loss and anti-ageing?

WHAT TO EXPECT IN OUR INFRARED SAUNA

We’ll greet you at reception and show you where to go. The room itself is completely private with its own shower and relaxation area.

We’ll set the timer and start temperature, as well as talk you through the basic control panel for you to adjust as you wish.

How hot does it get inside?

Each session begins at 25°C, with the temperature steadily increasing to 50°C by the last 10 minutes of your session. The maximum recommended temperature is 60°C and for those who are new, we recommend 45°C until you’re used to it.

How long is each session?

Because the temperature inside a far infrared sauna is adjustable and comfortable, we can stay in there longer than traditional saunas. We recommend 30 minutes.

What do I bring with me?

Showers, toiletries, hairdryer, towels, water and refreshments plus relaxing music are all available for you to use as part of the sauna therapy treatment.

If you’d like to listen to your own music, we’ll show you how to connect your phone using the sauna’s Bluetooth settings.

How big are the infrared saunas?

Our sauna is very spacious and can be used privately or with a partner.

What is the best recommended way to use the sauna?

Remove your clothes, step inside and close the door behind you firmly. You’ll sweat a lot, so place a towel on the seat before you sit down.

Use the sauna remote control to change the lighting. Feel the benefits of light.

MORE REASONS TO BOOK AN INFRARED SAUNA SESSION

Self-care such as routine, fresh nutrition, yoga, meditation and infrared sauna therapy are great ways to build immunity and protect us both physically and mentally from the COVID-19 climate around us.

Physically speaking, some studies show that infrared sauna sessions can prevent cold or flu-like symptoms developing into a full-blown virus if caught early enough.
